"Morimura Yasumasa: Want to change the world? Be seriously unserious"

Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design is pleased to present the special exhibition, “Morimura Yasumasa: Want to Change the World? Be Seriously Unserious.” The exhibition invites artist Morimura Yasumasa as guest curator, and centers on works housed in the museum’s collection. Rather than a “typical” exhibition in which works are introduced according to time periods and techniques, this exhibition draws from Morimura’s unique approach and introduces works by dividing the venue into six themes. As he himself describes, the concept is “to consider a drastic exhibit that would never be realized in an ordinary collection exhibition, and to change the way in which we see things. Such efforts are reflected in the idea of being Seriously Unserious.”

The exhibition will be divided into six rooms. These are: Room 1: Painting ”Turn it around”, Room 2: Chairs ”A little mischief never hurt anyone”, Room 3: Mountain imagery ”We're all different-and that's what makes us special”, Room 4: Objets d'art ”Listen to the voices of the stones”, Room 5: Three‐dimensional works ”A universe in a box”, Room 6: The Morimura Museum of Art History ”Be serious about copying, and you get the real thing.” We'll be introducing our collection and Mr. Morimura's self-portraits using daring contexts.
