A platform for transmitting Japanese creativity to the world using materials as a starting point

T he designe xhibition ‘MATERIAL IN TIME -METAL2.0-’will be held from Wednesday 23th March to Sunday 3rd April 2022, at a concept shop in Hong Kong, 合舍 Form Society.  STUDIO BY COLOR's producer Kaori Akiyama, who creates various creations with designs that express the appeal of colors and materials, has been launched as a platform to communicate Japanese creativity to the world through “materials”.

2018's first “MATERIAL IN TIME-PAPER-” was attended by more than 2,000 visitors, and the twoe xhibited works received the DFA Asian Design Award. The main theme of thi sex hibitionis “metal”, which is based on exhibition, sales and talksession with local creators of works and products by companies with unique technologies selected from Japan and up-and-coming designers. 7 works of designers and companies will be on display and products of 7 brands will be sold at 合舍 Form Society. An online talk event will also be held in viting Hong Kong -based designer LeeChi-Wing to convey the history, charm and characteristics of "metal" from each country. We aim to create opportunities to expand new connections and possibilities by disseminating Japan's unique creativity to everyone in Hong Kong and the world.

About 合舍 Form Society

A local art and cultural space that connects people and stories within communities established in 2017 by Wong Tin Yan. Exhibition, seminar, screening, booklaunch, band show, performance, select shop and workshop etc. has been happened right here in the past years.

STUDIO BYCOLOR's designer Kaori Akiyama 

She presides over STUDIO BYCOLOR, a design office that creates creations that make effective use of the appeal of colors and materials. After graduating from the Department of Design Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chiba University in 2002, she gained experience at Itoki Corporation and STUDIO Samira Boon (Netherlands). German Design Award (Germany), DFA Asia Design Award (HongKong), DIA Top 100 (Hangzhou,China), Good Design Award (Japan), etc. Participated in domestic and international exhibitions such as Milano Salone (Italy) and Ambiente (Germany). Since 2018, Part-time lecturer at Chiba University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Design Engineering, Hosei University Faculty of Design Engineering Department of System Design. Jury Good Design Award in Japan.

LeeChi-Wing 

Lee Chi-wing studied Industrial Design in Hong Kong and France. He set up Milk Design in 1998. Time Out Magazine calls Milk Design one of the Top 25 HK designers, and Monocle Magazine describes Milk Design’s projects as simple yet experimental. Some designs of the company are collected by Hong Kong Heritage Museum and M+ museum. Lee believes design originates in culture and tradition, and is a part of daily living.
