La Panthère Takes Over Tokyo

La Panthère de Cartier, a symbol of strength, freedom, and seduction, has accompanied the history of the French Maison since 1914. It currently appears on the facades of the Cartier boutique in Ginza, inviting the public to cross the threshold of an immersive and wild experience. The “Into the Wild” pop-up, celebrating this timeless icon with its unmistakable black spots and emerald eyes, is open to the public from October 22nd to November 3rd, 2025.

Spread across various floors of the boutique, the pop-up consists of four experiences, each recounting and celebrating the history of La Panthère de Cartier.

At the entrance to the boutique, specially reimagined for the event, an imposing chandelier crafted from metal elements reminiscent of the panther's spotted fur welcomes visitors. From here, the journey through this feline experience begins.
The panther itself guides the public along a corridor leading to the first stop on the tour: an evocative video projected on a curved wall tells the story of the brand’s symbol, from its creation to the various collections that have followed over time, up to the present day.

“The office of a visionary,” a fully-fledged room furnished with wood paneling, shelves, and a desk, evokes the studio of Jeanne Toussaint, the celebrated creator of La Panthère. The space comes to life thanks to fully immersive projections - on the walls and table - retracing the designer's career.

A particularly fascinating detail caught my attention: the carpet, designed specifically for the event, is personalized with La Panthère face pattern. A refined and distinctive element, difficult to fully appreciate due to the dim lighting, but capable of adding a touch of mystery and charm to the experience.adf-web-magazine-cartier-04adf-web-magazine-cartier-05Enclosed in a mirrored space decorated with LED screens, “Infinite Expressions of the Panther” is an immersive room that celebrates the many facets of creativity associated with La Panthère. At the center of the space, a hexagonal display showcases the three creative forms of interpretation dedicated to the feline: graphic, abstract, and naturalistic.

Leaving this room, we finally immerse ourselves in the savoir-faire, my favorite. Here we discover the tools used by the artisans to bring the feline to life and the professionals who collaborated in its creation. Sculptors, designers, polishers, casters, gem setters, gem cutters, jewelers, and gemologists combine their skills to create this masterpiece.

This is not only the most interesting room, but it was also a lot of fun. Screens arranged in semicircles project videos of the artisans working on the panther, accompanied by their narrations and conversations. An experience that allows us to fully understand the collaboration required to create the jewel.

The small theater hosting the screening of the animated short film “La Panthère de Cartier” - produced by manga artist Naoki Urasawa, featuring the voices of Tomoko Yamaguchi
and Yuta Tamamori- is preceded by the foyer, with a forest-like backdrop. This space hosts three showcases presenting different interpretations of La Panthère: the zebra and the crocodile.

The small theater, furnished with sofas and armchairs, features a particularly interesting detail: the seats are arranged on a sort of “island” specifically created in the shape of the panther's spotted fur, making the space even more immersive and dramatic.adf-web-magazine-cartier-12adf-web-magazine-cartier-13adf-web-magazine-cartier-14

One of my favorite quotes in the world is from the famous architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe:

“God is in the details.”

In the case of the “Into the Wild” pop-up, this quote could not be more appropriate. The event distills the very essence of one of Cartier’s most iconic creations, La Panthère. And how is this achieved? Through subtle touches - or rather, one defining motif: the panther’s distinctive spotted coat, reimagined throughout the space.adf-web-magazine-cartier-15adf-web-magazine-cartier-16adf-web-magazine-cartier-17adf-web-magazine-cartier-18From the chandelier that greets visitors at the entrance to the immersive video, from the bespoke carpet to the theater’s sculptural “islands,” from the wall décor in the “Touch and Try” area to the patterned flooring itself, every element draws the eye and stirs the imagination. It is this meticulous attention to a single, powerful detail that elevates the experience - intimate in scale yet grand in emotion - into a celebration of artistry, storytelling, and design.
