獣のようにも人間のようにも見える捉えどころのない生き物に出会う
MAKI Gallery / 天王洲でススム・カミジョウ個展「帰って来たら When You Come Home」が2024年4月20日（土）から6月8日（土）まで開催中。カミジョウはニューヨーク・ブルックリンを拠点に活動するアーティスト。2014年からプードルをモチーフに取り入れ、紙にクレヨンやパステルを駆使して作品を制作してきた。近年はキャンバスとアクリル絵具を用い、プードルを起点としながらペインティングにおける形、色彩、構図、質感のあり方を追求し続けている。

ブラシの巧みな動き、そして色と色を層にすることによって生み出される多様な表面の質感、直線と曲線を組み合わせて描かれた形を繋ぎ合わせることによって現れる絶妙なバランスの構図は、観るものに作家の絵を描くということに対する深い探究心と純粋な好奇心を伝えている。プードルというモチーフに対する感情的なこだわりはないとカミジョウは語っているが、本展で鑑賞者が対面するのはプードルというオブジェクトが抽象化されることで生まれた、獣のようにも人間のようにも見える捉えどころのない生き物である。
