Playful and Innovative Design Wins Recognition
In September 2024, Bright Little Things (BLT) unveiled an innovative collection of flush-mounted switches and sockets during the GLUE-Amsterdam design event. Combining functionality with a touch of playfulness, this collection redefines how switches and sockets are perceived. The design earned BLT the prestigious Frame Award 2024 in the Accessories category, announced on October 24 in Hong Kong.

New Value in Switch and Socket Design
Switches and sockets are often overlooked in interior design, but architect and designer Kitty van Riet sought to change this perception. Identifying a gap in the market, she reimagined these everyday components with a modern, minimalist, and vibrant approach. Existing options were typically limited to plastic finishes, dull colors, or retro styles. BLT’s designs not only provide functionality but also contribute to the aesthetic appeal of a space, earning high praise from both clients and the design community.

Sustainability and Functionality Combined
The BLT collection is crafted from durable solid surface material, known for its sustainability and ability to be recycled or reused. This ensures a long-lasting and eco-conscious solution, with additional features including:
- Wide Compatibility: Compatible with in-wall mechanisms from brands like Gira, Jung, and Merten.
- Flexible Upgradability: Switches can easily be upgraded to dimmers without replacing plates or buttons.
- Durability and Cleanability: Dishwasher-safe and easy to clean.
- Magnetic Attachment: Components attach securely with strong magnets, allowing for simple installation and replacement.
Although precise in-wall alignment is required for installation, the components maintain exceptional functionality and durability once in place.
A New Use for Solid Surface Materials
BLT has creatively applied solid surface materials, commonly used in furniture design, to switches and sockets. This material combines the look and feel of natural stone with the workability of wood, offering a tactile and visually appealing experience. The collection’s seamless integration with other solid surface products enhances the cohesion of interior spaces. Manufactured locally near Amsterdam, these components are produced using precision CNC milling techniques in collaboration with Databouw. This partnership has set a new benchmark for precision in the industry, particularly for small and refined design elements.
