Connecting Home and Forest through Tropical Planting and Sustainable Solutions
Located at the highest point of a residential neighborhood in Manaus, Brazil, and adjacent to a permanent conservation area, "Pupunha House" features a landscape design by Hana Eto Gall Landscape that engages in direct dialogue with the Amazon rainforest. The architectural design was led by Laurent Troost Architectures, with interiors by Chris Coimbra. The project places the garden at its core, blurring the boundaries between architecture and nature.
Visitors follow a path surrounded by tropical vegetation, where lush foliage, natural shade, and varied textures create a fresh and humid microclimate. This immersive experience continues inside, where greenery flows along the circulation routes and integrates seamlessly into daily life.

The project includes an automated irrigation system and a terrain-sensitive implementation strategy. Plant selection focuses on native and climate-adapted species such as Calatheas, Alocasias, Heliconias, banana trees, and palms, helping the house appear to float above the forest canopy. Some of the site’s original vegetation was preserved, while ecologically and visually valuable new species were introduced to enhance comfort, privacy, and biodiversity.

About Hana Eto Gall Landscape
Founded in 2018 and based in Manaus, Brazil, Hana Eto Gall Landscape develops integrated landscape and architectural projects rooted in sustainability and context. Led by landscape architect Hana Eto Gall, a graduate of the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) with international training at the University of the Basque Country in Spain, the firm creates sustainable, functional, and self-sufficient environments for residential, commercial, hospitality, and urban projects. Each project begins with close listening, employing native vegetation, organic lines, and natural textures to foster relationships between people and the city, homes and surroundings, and built form and nature. The practice oversees every phase, from concept to implementation and post-construction support. Expanding its work to include parks and planned neighborhoods, Hana Eto Gall Landscape affirms landscape design as a key driver in shaping urban spaces that improve quality of life and strengthen the connection to nature.
