Continue Photographer Hozumi Nakadaira’s photo exhibition "JAZZ GIANTS 1961-2013" Hozumi Nakadaira RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION 2024 will be held at the Meguro Art Museum from May 22nd (Tuesday). This exhibition will be Hozumi Nakadaira’s largest with over 200 pieces on display.
His photographs were not intended for sale, and there are very few prints in existence. Furthermore, in 2014, due to the revision of photographic paper (monochrome), the color tone changed to a purely Japanese tone, and since then, photographic prints have been made to this day. This is a valuable photo exhibition where you can see from the time all in one place.
Hozumi Nakadaira is a photographer who has supported the world's jazz scene as a leading jazz photographer. he has been photographing legendary jazz musicians from Japan and abroad for over 50 years, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Art Blakey,Thelonious Monk, and Sadao Watanabe. Hozumi Nakadaira’s photographs have been used on many record and CD covers, movie jackets, and feature films all over the world, and he is the only Japanese artist whose work is included in New York's long-established jazz bar Village Vanguard. he is still active as a leader and pioneer of jazz culture around the world in 2024.
Hozumi Nakadaira
Photographer. Born in 1936 in Wakayama. In 1960, he graduated from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Photography. In 1961, he photographed Art Blakey's first visit to Japan. In the same year, he opened a "DIG'' in Shinjuku, and in 1967 he opened a "DUG'' behind Kinokuniya in Shinjuku. He held a photo exhibition at Shinjuku Konica Plaza (27,000 visitors). 2013: Received the Wakayama Prefecture Cultural Achievement Award in 2013. He has held photo exhibitions also overseas.
Grace Mahya
Jazz singer/pianist. She began studying classical piano, violin, and ballet at the age of three, and won a piano competition at the age of four. When she was 9 years old, she studied abroad in Paris for the summer, studying with pianist Lucette Deskalb.In 1997, she went to Germany to study abroad, and after graduating from the piano department of Freiburg University of Music, where she entered with top grades, she continued to pursue concert activities while deepening her musical research. After returning to Japan in 2003, he became a pianist and singer who created jazz/blues. His first work was "The Look of Love'' in 2006, followed by "Last Live at DUG'', a live album that will go down in jazz history in 2007, and "Love Songs'' in 2016. for you” and will release their 9th CD album (15th anniversary live at Cotton Club in 2021) in the spring of 2023.She is fluent in languages, can speak 4 languages, and is also a radio personality.
