The World’s Largest 3D-printed Ceramic Architectural Artworks
Dutch architecture and design practice Studio RAP has unveiled two monumental ceramic feature walls gracing the entrance lobby of Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, a new luxury landmark on Dubai’s coastline. Flanking either side of the grand entryway, the twin installations frame the arrival sequence with a sense of calm precision and sculptural drama.
Entitled "Blue Voyage", the work takes its cues from the rhythms of the nearby Gulf. The undulating forms evoke the motion of waves, while the surfaces reveal ever-more intricate patterns at closer range—flowing lines and layered ridges that shift with the light throughout the day. Specially designed corner tiles wrap the motifs seamlessly around edges, heightening the installation’s spatial unity and sculptural depth.
Each wall stands six metres tall and spans nine metres in length. In total, Studio RAP conceived and 3D-printed around 900 bespoke ceramic tiles, each one digitally modelled and fabricated in-house at the studio’s Rotterdam facility. The parametric design process allowed for complete control over geometry, precision, and material finish.
Among the world’s largest 3D-printed ceramic architectural artworks, Blue Voyage captures Studio RAP’s signature fusion of computational design and craft. Through cutting-edge digital fabrication, the project transforms architectural surfaces into expressive, enduring works of art—bridging technology, materiality, and place.
