Highly acclaimed for combining tropical modernism with adaptability to climate change

Miami-based architecture firm STRANG has been awarded Firm of the Year at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Florida Design & Honor Awards, marking its most significant recognition to date. Founded in 1998 by Max Strang, the practice is acclaimed for its "environmental modernism," a climate-responsive design philosophy that has shaped Florida’s architectural landscape.

Known for modern residences that blend resilience and regional sensitivity, STRANG has previously earned top accolades, including a place on Forbes’ 2025 Top 200 Residential Architects list, The Architect’s Newspaper’s Best Practice award, and multiple honors from AIA Miami, AIA Florida, and AIA Gulf Coast. The firm also drew praise for restoration work on the historic Gene Leedy Home + Office.

Max Strang himself is a decorated figure in the field, a Fellow of the AIA since 2016 and recipient of AIA Florida’s Medal of Honor for Design, AIA Miami’s Silver Medal, and Architect of the Year title. His design ethos—deeply influenced by Florida’s tropical climate and the challenges of climate change—has positioned STRANG as an international voice for regional modernism. Most recently, Wallpaper Magazine named Strang a "Tastemaker” in its USA 400 feature, calling him “a prolific Miami architect who brings tropical modern to the 21st century."
