With this scholarship, the City of Cologne and its sponsors want to honour the Pritzker Prize winner, who died in 2021. Inspired by the work of Gottfried Böhm, the scholarship focuses on the interactions between architecture and urban planning. The initiator and patron is Cologne's Lord Mayor Henriette Reker. The scholarship is organized and supervised by the Verein der Freunde und Förderer der Technischen Hochschule Köln e.V. (Association of Friends and Sponsors of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences).

Since December, postgraduate architects and urban planners have had time to apply for the residency scholarship initiated in 2023. It offers the scholarship holder twelve months to develop their own urban planning project for Cologne and the region - with financial backing, creative freedom, professional support and a workspace in the heart of the city. In a multi-stage process, the jury will decide who will be awarded the next Gottfried Böhm Scholarship. The scholarship is scheduled to start in October 2025.
