Architecture and Interior Design in West Hollywood

Pleasure Med, a new cannabis complex designed by Los Angeles-based Studio UNLTD, has opened on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. Adjacent to the iconic Pleasure Chest, the facility is divided into three distinct zones: a retail space on the ground floor, a consumption lounge on the second floor, and an outdoor restaurant and bar.

The design draws inspiration from the "faded glory" of Havana, Cuba, blending aged textures and tropical elements to create a sense of richness and relaxation. The retail floor evokes the feel of a vintage apothecary, with full-height oak shelving, diagonal checkerboard marble flooring, and a two-tiered beaded chandelier as a centerpiece beneath a coffered ceiling.

A glass stairwell leads up to the second-floor lounge, which is modeled after a sprawling colonial residence with secret rooms and a central courtyard offering views of the Hollywood Hills. At the heart of the space, a marble-topped bar with copper detailing sits beneath a large retractable skylight, surrounded by six semicircular walnut booths with cane and rust-colored upholstery. Glass orb pendants of various lengths, along with tropical greenery, contribute to the room’s intimate, whimsical ambiance. Separate wings of the lounge include a private dining room and a relaxed salon, both enclosed by floor-to-ceiling decorative steel and obscured glass partitions. The dining room seats 16 at inlaid walnut tables with deep green leather chairs. Floral cut-glass chandeliers hang above, set against ornate pink and crimson wallpaper.

The main lounge area, designed as the most intimate and refined part of the building, features emerald channel-tufted banquettes, parquet wood flooring, brass-rimmed marble tables, and turned walnut legs. The walls are adorned with metallic gold sconces, mirrors, painted molding, and staghorn ferns, forming a lush, sophisticated oasis. Situated between the main structure and the kitchen, the bar and restaurant opens to a trellised patio furnished with white oak chairs and mint-patterned cement tabletops. This serene outdoor area, surrounded by greenery and dappled sunlight, completes the project’s experiential narrative.
