A Humorous Exploration of Our Relationship with Food<\/h3>\r\n

A<\/span>DF<\/a> (Aoyama Design Forum) is pleased to present the 43rd edition of its \u201cADF Art Gallery Project<\/a>,\u201d the four-person exhibition Generic Foods by shiraki, ZENZABURO, Tamaki Miyase, and Momo Matsuno, at GARDE Gallery<\/a> in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, from June 5 to June 19, 2026.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Bringing together four artists active across different creative disciplines, the exhibition examines contemporary food culture through the shared question of how modern society prioritizes reproducibility and standardization in what we eat. Each artist approaches the subject from a distinct perspective. shiraki creates installations and fashion-based works that reconsider existing values and perspectives; ZENZABURO describes his paintings as \u201cinterior paintings,\u201d depicting familiar scenery with a unique touch while exploring the psychological comfort generated by integrating art into daily life; Tamaki Miyase applies knowledge of information engineering to create wearable works that respond to their environment, exploring visions of future humanity; and Momo Matsuno, while working as a freelance designer, produces tile-based artworks inspired by food motifs.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

The title Generic Foods reflects the contemporary condition in which food circulates and is consumed primarily as a commodity, endlessly reproduced through a culture of copy and paste. Today, especially in urban environments, people are surrounded by an overwhelming variety of foods and routinely consume standardized products without knowing much about how they were produced or processed. Many ingredients have become anonymous, and every bite relies on trust in countless unseen individuals involved in the chain behind it. The homogenization of food is shaped by industrialization, globalized distribution networks, long-term preservation technologies, and the blending of cultures across borders. To think about food, therefore, is also to think about the era in which we live.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Rather than simply criticizing the disconnect between producing and consuming food in contemporary society, the exhibition humorously explores the relationship between symbolic food, eating habits, flavors, and ourselves through the distinct methodologies each artist has cultivated. The exhibition invites viewers to reconsider the acts of \u201cmaking,\u201d \u201cexchanging,\u201d and \u201cconsuming\u201d food. By reexamining the contours of food through these works, everyday supermarkets and dining tables may begin to appear slightly different than they did before.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

shiraki<\/h4>\r\n

Currently enrolled in the Global Art Practice master\u2019s program at Tokyo University of the Arts, shiraki also studied at coconogacco while attending Musashino Art University. Focusing on the beauty and fascination of overlooked everyday objects and things that have lost their original roles, the artist questions established systems of value and perception. With an emphasis on the relationship between artwork and viewer, shiraki primarily works through installation and fashion.<\/p>\r\n

Graduated from the Department of Spatial Design at Musashino Art University. Viewing his work as \u201cinterior paintings,\u201d ZENZABURO depicts familiar landscapes through a distinctive perspective and painterly touch. His practice explores the psychological comfort that emerges when paintings become part of everyday life.<\/p>\r\n

Tamaki Miyase<\/h4>\r\n

Currently studying Information Experience Design at the Royal College of Art. During graduate studies in Japan, Miyase researched and developed wearable expressions that respond to the surrounding environment using knowledge of information engineering. Through wearable objects, the artist explores and materializes possible images of future humanity.<\/p>\r\n

Momo Matsuno<\/h4>\r\n

Graduated from Nagoya University of the Arts and completed a master\u2019s degree at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS). Alongside working as a freelance designer, Matsuno studied at coconogacco from 2021 to 2025. Currently active as both an artist and designer, Matsuno also produces artwork for fashion brands.<\/p>\r\n
