It represents emotions shaped by shame, taboo, and the unspoken rules we internalize through social life. They may appear awkward or even frightening, but they function as protectors. They guard what is usually hidden, disciplined, or suppressed.

The exhibition unfolds across three spaces: an entrance, an office, and a beauty room. Each setting reflects environments structured by expectation and self-control. By placing my creatures within these familiar contexts, I question norms of productivity, appearance, and social performance.

Downstairs, I reinterpret the Japanese Wakuguri purification ritual. Instead of the traditional hoop, I use a curtain as a threshold. Together with the outstretched hand of a monster, it invites visitors to pass through and symbolically release modern negative forces such as social pressure and internalized norms. I reshape ritual into a moment for reflection rather than obedience.

During the exhibition, I will also host a special dinner and a live jazz concert. Sculpture, food, and music will share the same space, creating a collective experience. Visitors are not only viewers but participants. The experience itself becomes an extension of the exhibition.

Come Meet the Monsters is an attempt to present the monster not as an external enemy, but as a mirror of ourselves. I hope it can become a starting point for confronting the vulnerability that lies beneath fear and discomfort.

COME MEET THE MONSTERS

Dates

February 13 - 14, 11:00-17:00 (Vernissage: Feb.12 18:00-21:00）

Venue

TRIQUETRA
76 rue Saint Maur, 75011 Paris

URL

https://tinyurl.com/5eb66b8f

In February 2026, I will present my solo exhibition Come Meet the Monsters in Paris. or this show, I created a […]

Eri Maeda's Solo Exhibition "Come Meet the Monsters" at TRIQUETRA #adf #npoadf #EriMaeda #前田英里 #ComeMeetTheMonsters #TRIQUETRA
[6,10
55,83,121,289,325
https://www.adfwebmagazine.jp/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/adf-web-magazine-eri-maeda-come-meet-the-monsters.jpg
