Define the problem, then act.\u00a0 Don\u2019t become a victim of your gift.\u00a0 It\u2019s not a burden, perhaps you just don\u2019t know how to manage it.\u00a0 Get out of your own way.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There is no failure<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Art is vital to your welfare<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It\u2019s a stand-in for all those things: inexplicable, ineffable and impossible<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The generation of a form must engage with the process.\u00a0 Nothing can be arbitrary.\u00a0 The forms have to be generated by those principles of the framework.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The moment a painting begins to reveal its identity is maybe the most difficult point to get to.\u00a0 It\u2019s just never clear what the painting will become.\u00a0 It\u2019s very spontaneous.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">How might you introduce a new space?<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The forms of a painting are a language of varying degrees of subjectivity<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Values<\/strong>:\u00a0 Dislocation, Disregard for logic, Irrationality, Desire for freedom, A feeling of limitlessness, Light, Space, Conflict\/Ambivalence, Pathos\/wistful, Impending failure\/breakdown, Labor\/Touch, Body <strong>\u2192<\/strong> Hand <strong>\u2192<\/strong> Painting, God Mode \u2192 IDKFA \/ IDDQD \/ IDBEHOLD, Noise\/Corruption<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Rather than limiting oneself to conservative and safer practices of formal invention, consider your habits, identify them and develop strategies to demonstrate a willingness and desire to resist unnecessary restraint.\u00a0 For example, if one habitually covers an entire painting with one color, rather than approaching this as a defect that needs to be adjusted, introduce a formal strategy that says, \u201cI know and IDGAF\u201d.\u00a0 In this case, use more contour lines to show your willingness to completely ignore the assertion of their presence.\u00a0 It\u2019s an ironic gesture.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Painting as desire to communicate an exchange regarding the unidentifiable, inexplicably mysterious process of the production of meaning<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Explain the character and texture of the self-consciousness your painting provokes in yourself and others.\u00a0 This will have to be answered while looking.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Painting as access to one's consciousness<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The disregard for codified systems results in dislocation.\u00a0 That dislocation results in a fulcrum between what has been done and what is possible.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Perpetual Motion, relational mechanics<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Grid is an authority.\u00a0 It should be disrespected, undermined and made fun of at all times and at all costs<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A painting talks about it\u2019s own limitations: A flat surface, A picture space, a site for formal invention<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Painting seems to want to question what it means to actually know something for sure.\u00a0 You definitely don\u2019t<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It\u2019s about its own inherent desire to understand what it is without interjecting a kind of rationalism<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">An unanticipated resolution will have you considering very old paintings<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Rules for painting on any given day:<\/h4>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Act before you think<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Be willing to risk loss without subsequently trying to recover loss<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Color has value, remember contrasts<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Establish a rhythm first, then start to show the painting respect<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Don\u2019t respect the painting too much<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Don\u2019t look at finished paintings while painting something new<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Don\u2019t care. You really shouldn\u2019t care.\u00a0 Things fall flat when you care about it<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Don\u2019t fall back on old habits when you\u2019re unsure where to go<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Leave bigger shapes. Open space can be good<\/li>\r\n\t<li>If red is home, then do you remember the day you left home for the first time?<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Scale is everything<\/li>\r\n\t<li>When you\u2019re lost, just yell<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Act before you think<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Think repetition. It creates rhythm<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Shapes and marks need to work together, even if they hate each other. It\u2019s much bigger than any single one of them.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Live in one space, then leave it. Don\u2019t go back.\u00a0 Embrace departure<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Be decisive<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Painting should reveal to you the future<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">What aspect of my work is mine and not just redundancy?<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">What is totally emphatic about my work; what can I not change?<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">What is necessary?\u00a0 What isn\u2019t?<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">O<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Don't overpaint. Don't give your viewer too much. Demeanor? I dunno Utopianism?\u00a0 Failed, right? Contemporary culture is a series of symptomatic expressions when all our times was fine soul of my soul come back home.\u00a0 If so, then are my paintings symptomatic?\u00a0 They are symptomatic of detachment and distance How it Ends. The figures maintain a sense of anonymity, they're strange in the sense that they are unfamiliar, like they are new every time I see them.\u00a0 The identities are obscured because I don't know them and feel that maybe I shouldn't impose my will onto them?\u00a0 I'm giving you everything you need to know except the most important parts, and I love that about the painting.\u00a0 They completely evade a narrative resolution. Is that valid?
