A newly built home in Catalonia designed by architect Damián Ribas and interior studio D’Aussy Interiors

In the heart of Catalonia’s Empordà region—homeland of Salvador Dalí—a new single-family residence has been completed through the collaboration of architect Damián Ribas and Clara Joly D’Aussy of D’Aussy Interiors. Designed as a refuge for a family living between Barcelona and Girona, the home offers a space for reconnection, rest, and an integrated lifestyle. Harmonizing architecture and interiors, the project is deeply rooted in local materials and traditional craftsmanship, embodying a Mediterranean aesthetic marked by minimalism and warmth.

The house is composed of two rectangular volumes on a single level with a basement: a day area (living and dining) and a night area (bedrooms), connected by a central entrance. This layout allows natural light to reach every corner—even the basement—creating a fluid relationship between indoors and outdoors. The boundaries between architecture and landscape are intentionally blurred. The structure employs noble, locally sourced materials such as dry-jointed stone, Catalan toba, lime mortar, rustic microcement, oak wood, and black metal elements. D’Aussy Interiors further enhances this architectural language with natural materials—linen, cotton, recycled wood, ceramics, paper, and metal—carefully selected to convey warmth, functionality, and simplicity.

The living area features a sloped wooden ceiling in off-white tones, maximizing brightness and space. A linen sofa faces a fireplace, flanked by large windows for ample sunlight and cross-ventilation. The L-shaped kitchen combines white cabinetry and wooden shelves to create a visually light, functional space. A central island with wooden stools adds warmth to the neutral palette. The dining area is minimal yet fresh, with a round white table and rattan chairs under a large rice-paper lamp. Opposite the living space, a slightly raised study with oak shelving displays white and ceramic objects, reinforcing the room’s calm aesthetic. The night area invites rest and retreat. Bedrooms feature bespoke minimalist furniture by D’Aussy Interiors and open directly onto the garden. Integrated headboards, niche-style nightstands, and full-height natural fabric curtains provide consistency and serenity throughout.

The landscaped garden, filled with native species, extends the interior ambiance outward. A large porch with built-in benches and soft cushions under a cane pergola offers a shaded chill-out area by the pool. Outdoor spaces are designed for dining, resting, or reading—allowing enjoyment of the sun while sheltered from the tramontana wind.

About D’Aussy Interiors

D’Aussy Interiors is a design studio based in the Empordà region, specializing in home renovation and interior design for those seeking authentic, peaceful, and nature-connected spaces. Founded in 2017 by Clara Joly D’Aussy and her father, Dominique—an industrial and landscape designer—the studio embraces Mediterranean essence and craftsmanship in all its projects. Clara, born in Barcelona, holds a Master’s Degree in Architectural Interior Design from Elisava and has over 15 years of experience. After working in Barcelona and later in Australia, she developed a design philosophy grounded in sustainability, balance, and environmental respect. Since returning to Empordà in 2016, she has focused on creating homes that reflect the Mediterranean character and Catalan identity. Today, Clara leads D’Aussy Interiors in collaboration with architects, designers, landscape specialists, and local artisans. In 2026, she plans to launch a new service for international clients seeking to find and restore homes in Costa Brava with a focus on tradition, sustainability, and slow living.
