Next-Generation R&D Campus Where Science and City Meet Recognized on a Global Stage
Voice Architecture Lab (VAL) has announced that its project, WuXi AppTec Nantong site (Phase I), has been selected as the Popular Choice Winner in the Factory & Warehouse category of the 13th Architizer A+Awards. Hosted by the globally renowned architectural platform Architizer, the award is one of the most prestigious honors in the international architectural community.
Located along the Yangtze River Delta, this R&D campus serves as a major facility for the client and includes administration buildings, laboratories, warehouses, and more. The design emphasizes modernity, a scientific atmosphere, and precision to support next-generation pharmaceutical R&D. Eight primary buildings are grouped into two clusters, creating a low-west, high-east topography that stretches across the site. A Z-shaped lab building and an R&D office area enclose each other, forming a striking and iconic urban facade.
The facade integrates elements for natural ventilation and lighting. White vertical fins offer both sun shading and a simplified visual rhythm, reducing the exterior complexity caused by varying internal R&D processes. The final outcome is a composition that harmonizes industrial efficiency, technological expression, and human scale—creating a spatial identity that reflects the mission of a pharmaceutical research campus.
