建築とアート パフォーマンスを横断する《Liminality in Motion – As Boundaries Begin to Move》が歴史的中庭に見えない境界を立ち上げる
フランス・モンペリエで開催された建築フェスティバル「Festival des Architectures Vives(FAV)2026」で、奈良を拠点に活動する建築家・竹村優里佳(Yurica Design & Architecture)が「Premier Prix du Jury Spécial 20 ans(20周年特別審査員アワード)」を受賞した。受賞作《Liminality in Motion – As Boundaries Begin to Move》は、モンペリエ旧市街の歴史的な中庭を舞台に、建築、インスタレーション、パフォーマンス、没入型サウンドを融合したサイトスペシフィック作品である。人と場所、過去と現在、自己と他者の間に存在する「見えない境界」を身体的な体験として立ち上げ、日常を形づくる関係性を捉え直す空間を提示した。
モンペリエの日常に潜む風景を可視化する
プロジェクトの出発点となったのは、モンペリエ旧市街の日常にすでに存在する美しさへの着目だった。カストリーで切り出された石灰岩による街路、地中海の温かな光、中庭を抜ける穏やかな風、鳥や飛行機が横切る空。竹村は歴史的環境に新たなオブジェクトを付加するのではなく、場所が内包する性質を顕在化し、増幅する空間装置として作品を構想した。中庭の約12m上空には金属製のメッシュが吊り下げられ、通常は目に見えない「境界」に物理的な存在を与えている。来場者は作品を眺めるだけでなく、メッシュの間を通り、自らの身体によって揺らしながら境界を越える行為そのものを体験する。風を受けたメッシュは生き物のように静かに揺れ、不可視だった空気の動きを視覚化する。

光と記憶が浮遊する空間
日本の伝統的な暖簾をくぐるようにメッシュを通過すると、中庭の中央には透明な雫を思わせる樹脂製のメダリオンが円環状に浮かぶ。それぞれにはモンペリエの街路や歴史的中庭から採取したテクスチャーが封じ込められている。刻々と変化する自然光を受けて輝くメダリオンは、都市に蓄積された記憶の断片が地面から立ち上がり、空中を漂っているかのような風景をつくる。風、光、素材、身体の動きを介して、建築、自然、記憶、人間の身体の間にある関係を感覚的に知覚させる。

パフォーマンスが生み出す「あわい」
フェスティバル期間中には、竹村が学際的アーティストの竹島唯、パフォーマーの河村春奈と協働した没入型パフォーマンスも展開された。日本の伝統芸能である能が持つ身体性から着想を得たパフォーマンスはインスタレーションと交錯し、鑑賞者自身の身体を「あわい」の状態へと導く。自己と他者、内と外といった境界の間に生まれる状態を、動きや知覚、身体の存在を通して体験する試みである。《Liminality in Motion – As Boundaries Begin to Move》には、建築を分離のための境界ではなく、関係性を育む媒体として捉える竹村の建築観が表れている。固定されたオブジェクトとしてではなく、記憶や身体の動き、異なる文化との出会いによって絶えず変化する経験として建築を提示した点が評価され、Festival des Architectures Vivesの20周年を記念する「Premier Prix du Jury Spécial 20 ans」の受賞につながった。

建築家。奈良を拠点に国際的に活動する建築・デザインスタジオYurica Design & Architectureを主宰。「Open Nostalgia」を理念に、既存の環境、歴史、記憶を未来へ開くための建築を探究している。建築を固定された物体ではなく、人、場所、時間、自然の間で変化し続ける関係として捉え、建築設計や空間インスタレーションを通して、目に見えない関係性を身体で知覚する体験を生み出している。日本の自然観を背景に、伝統的な職人技や素材と現代技術を組み合わせ、自然との共生、身体的知覚、境界性をテーマに建築、アート、空間研究を横断して活動する。
